-slab-building technique
The Manteca butter dish is made from high quality stoneware and fired to high temperature (1280ºC), which makes the final pieces extremely strong.
All the glazes are formulated by Estudio Vernís to make the most of the wood-firing and specially to guarantee that they are food-safe and they resist the passing of time.
Both the stoneware and the glazes they use are dishwasher friendly. They are tested on restaurants and cafes, where they have proved to be resistant to ovens, microwaves and dishwashers.
What makes their pieces unique can also make them more delicate. It is possible that the appearance of the pieces changes with the passing of time, sun exposure, and use, specially on unglazed surfaces. The piece will age alongside you and its look will be result of all of its experiences.
Crackles may appear over time and can stain naturally due the use of high colored liquids, like coffee or tea. Since all of their pieces are fired at high temperature, all of them are vitrified properly so there is nothing toxic or dangerous that can leach out from the crackle glazes.
Due to the nature of our process the pieces’ finish is beautifully unpredictable from batch to batch. Please expect slight variations in size/form/glaze from the pictured piece.
